The School of Modern Languages and Cultures has been awarded the largest grant in two Erasmus International Credit Mobility calls (over €600k in total) for an exchange project with the Islamic University of Gaza. It is the largest single cohort of Palestine students to participate on an exchange with a university in the UK.

This monumental project was secured by colleagues in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures along with UofG's Erasmus Office. The nine students from the Islamic University of Gaza have now successfully arrived in Glasgow and have begun their studies at the University.

The students had to overcome last-minute border closures, attacks on Gaza and perilous journeys through the Middle East to make it to Glasgow. The project team are preparing a Welcome Event on 5th February to mark the occasion – for both students and all staff involved, here and in Palestine.  Please contact Dr. Luis Gomes for more information: Luis.Gomes@glasgow.ac.uk

The project lead team was comprised of:

  • Dr Luís Gomes (Lecturer in Portuguese Studies);
  • Mr William Guariento (EAS Lecturer);
  • Ms Anna Rolinska (EAS Lecturer).
