If you are interested in applying for an externally-funded fellowship and would like to undertake your research at the University of Glasgow, please contact the relevant College Research Office. For more information on research expertise in the Colleges, please see the College links below.
If you are a member of staff at the University of Glasgow, and you are interested in making a fellowship application, the University has a number of support mechanisms to help you with your application and interview:
- Staff development workshops - there are a number of courses available including a Fellowship Interviews workshop.
- Annual Research Staff Conference - if you come along to the Conference you will hear from funders or previous applicants / panel members, as well as focus on specific elements of the application process.
Contact your College Research Office (emails below) to find out about processes for internal review of applications. The Guide to Fellowship Applications should help you get started with putting together an application and finding out where you can get advice on specific parts of it.
The interview stage
If you have been successful in getting to interview stage then congratulations! The University will be pleased to help you arrange a mock interview to help with your preparation. Please discuss this with your PI in the first instance, followed by your College Research Office.
Interdisciplinary Researchers’ Network
Once you are successful then you are welcome to join the University's Interdisciplinary Researchers’ Network. The network exists to support holders of personal Fellowships and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration. The University is the recipient of an institutional Bronze Award from the Athena SWAN Awards, which recognise commitment to tackling gender inequality in higher education. In addition to the institutional award, the University has been awarded a number of departmental Silver and Bronze Awards, recognising gender equality work within specific Schools and Institutes. In 2010, Glasgow was one of the first Universities in the UK to be awarded the European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award on the basis of its on-going commitment to implementing the Concordat for the Career Development of Research Staff. Following external peer review by the European Commission in 2015, the University successfully retained our HR Excellence in Research Award.
Key achievements since 2010 include the launch of a Code of Practice for the Management of Research Staff, increased research staff presence on decision making bodies and expectations for a commitment to career development becoming embedded into everyday processes for PIs and researchers. In the last six years, Glasgow has been shortlisted for a Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding Support for Early-Career Researchers on five occasions.
